At the beginning of Shoeshine girls Sara Ida is being picked up by her Aunt Claudia in a taxi. You find out why she has to go and visit her Aunt for the summer. Sara Ida meets her Aunt’s neighbor, Rossi. Read Chapters 1 and 2. Write a connection you had. Write at least one prediction. Share your opinion: Do you think that Sarah Ida would be a good friend? Look carefully at the drawing of the castle across from the title page. Explain why a castle is more than a building or home.
Castle in the attic is a fantasy book. You will see as you read it. In the beginning you are in modern times in America – but the main character, William, will travel into the past – read on to find out when the book turns into a fantasy.
After reading Chapters 1 & 2 – write a prediction for the book. Did you have any connections with William?
